How to Have Thicker, Fuller Hair . . . Even if You Don’t Have It
Who doesn’t want more luxurious hair like you see on the covers of magazines and in the movies? It’s kind of a no-brainer.
Alas, we’re not all blessed with that natural quality. Some of us have to put in actual work to make our hair come alive with thickness and fullness. The good news is it’s totally possible to have bombshell hair, no matter what your hair type.
Here are our quick-acting tips to have thicker, fuller, more voluminous hair—even when you’re not born with it.
The food we eat is often overlooked when it comes to our hair. If you’re a fan of healthy fats (hello, guacamole!), then this is great news. Good proteins and Omega-3s provide essential nutrients for growing stronger hair. Load up on olive oil, salmon, nuts, veggies, and fruits . . . and of course avocados.
It also bears mentioning that taking a multivitamin along with a hair supplement has proven beneficial for volumizing hair. So along with a healthy diet, a highly-endorsed hair supplement like Nutrafol, can deliver tremendous results. The downside is you have to be patient. There’s no quick fix for naturally thicker hair. You can expect to see results after a few months.
The right hair products actually do play a key role in hair volume. (It’s not just tricky advertising.) They help amplify the appearance of thickness and add shine. Volumizing products like shampoo, conditioner, powder, mousse, and texturizing spray can give your hair that oomph it needs for visible fullness. Daily brushing helps exfoliate the scalp and remove dead hair. But there are some pointers to keep in mind when you brush. When you’ve just gotten out of the shower and have wet hair, don’t brush it right away. It’s better to use your fingers to rough dry it first because this encourages volume at the root. And when you’re brushing, only stroke from the mid-length to the ends. Always avoid brushing your delicate root area. Finally, when you’re choosing your brush, go for ceramic, not plastic. Plastic will damage your hair and charge it with static.
When you’re blow-drying your locks, flip your head upside down for a low-maintenance blowout. This way, you’re training your hair to be fuller and fluffier by drying against the weight of the roots to fight gravity. And when you use a brush with your blow dryer, make sure your brush is always positioned underneath your strands to help lift the root.
Thick, luxuriant hair starts at the roots. (But remember, you don’t want to be digging your brush into your roots area.) It’s better to massage your roots and scalp with your fingers – plus it feels soooo good. For best performance, look for an easy-to-use volumizing powder with instant results, like our Puff.ME or Puff.ME Light Collection: Visit our Design.ME Volumizing Collection.
Pump it up! Your strands, that is. It’s easy to add body and thickness from the mid-length of your hair to the ends with a texturizing spray like Puff.ME Dry Texturizing Spray. We can’t stress enough how important it is to stay focused on the mid-length on down to the ends of your hair. Treat your scalp and roots with extra care.
When it comes to shampoos and conditioners, the key is to steer clear of the ones that will weigh down your strands or leave a heavy build-up when cleansing and conditioning. That just makes your hair look flat. Try using a weightless volumizing collection instead, likePuff.ME Shampoo & Conditioner, to give your hair back its natural volume without the heaviness.
And on that note, don’t overwash. Your hair knows what it’s doing. It’s natural oils will give it the proper amount of fullness. Also having a little bit of oil adds texture for easier styling. Of course, you don’t want to go more than a few days without using shampoo or your hair will look unkempt. Moderation is key here again. Remember, when you do use product, you need to rinse away the buildup well to maintain a healthy scalp. Use cooler to cold water to close the hair cuticle and add more shine.
Say goodbye to your flat iron, crimper, and hot rollers . . . or at least use them minimally. In fact, many professionals recommend getting rid of hot tools altogether because they damage your hair so badly. If you’re going to use heat, make sure it’s at the lowest setting. (Yes, you may need to allow more time for your routine, but your healthy tresses are worth it in the long run.)
